When it comes to gaming and online gambling, Stardust is a decent brand to try largely due to its fascinating history on the Vegas strip. Now just an online gambling site, the original brick-and-mortar Stardust was demolished in 2007 after almost fifty years of being one of the most iconic resorts in Las Vegas. The gambling house was renowned for its bright neon lights, topless showgirls and underworld connections; gangster and gambler Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal ran the in the 1970s, making a fortune for the mob in Sin City.
When the opened in 1958, keen gamblers were immediately drawn to the Cafe Continental dinner showroom – home to a rising stage larger than a basketball court. This stage held both an ice skating rink and a swimming tank, and viewers could enjoy both rain and snow which was generated on demand by entertainment management. An infamous show that was held on this stage was the production known as Lido de Paris. This show was imported over from France and included topless showgirls, a comedy set and even live animals.

For many countries around the globe, 1940 was a time of great uncertainty. The world was in the midst of World War 2, and companies didn’t know how the outcome of the war would affect the entertainment industry going forward. Marty Bromley, one of the original founders of Sega, started a company called Standard Games in 1940 which provided military bases in Hawaii with slot machine games. After the war came to an end in 1945, Bromley sought to take his business to Japan to help the country get back on its feet.

At the same time, a man called David Rosen began his own business selling paintings and setting up photo booths where you can get inexpensive photos taken for IDs. However, after the US military threw more money into Japan after the war, Rosen decided to move on to arcade games, realising he could buy them cheap and then sell them for more in Japan. In 1964, Bromley’s company and Rosen Enterprises joined forces to become the almighty SEGA Enterprises, a legend in videogaming that although is now experiencing slower sales, is the home of the infamous Sonic the Hedgehog, among other unforgettable games.
Nintendo

It’s pretty near impossible to find someone who hasn’t heard of Nintendo. While this brilliant gaming brand has enjoyed skyrocketed sales as a result of Super Mario, the Legend of Zelda, and newer games like Miitopia, the videogaming franchise didn’t always focus on the videogame market. After it was founded in 1889, Nintendo specialised in creating playing cards – and their biggest customers were illegal run by the yakuza, a Japanese organized crime syndicate.
Following their dealings with illegal , Nintendo continued to work hard to find their niche. The founder quickly became convinced that he could sell individually sized dehydrated bowls of rice in Japanese grocery stores, seeing the success of so many people buying instant noodles in these shops. Unsurprisingly, this new line of Nintendo fast food was a flop. However, the thing that really got this franchise into trouble, was when they started their own version of LEGO called N&B Block – simply scratching the word “LEGO” off the box, and writing “Nintendo” instead!
